ABOUT

SRS Barnehurst started in 1943 helps young girls learn how to sail, row and kayak. We teach the girls how to stay safe on water-based activates and the skills required to navigate and sail and paddel. In the winter months the crew gets involved in community action projects and other activities from sending Christmas boxes abroad to doing archery and climbing.

The girls have been given rare opportunities to sail tall ships at sea, white water-raft, learn first aid and take on survival skill challenges. As a crew we spend a lot of time together, supporting each other and becoming great friends.

Julia Austin
Number 1

Julia has spent the last 5 years with the crew, returning to SRS Barnehurst from when she was a child. She has gained numerous qualifications and enjoys Canoeing with Fairlop Canoe Club and sailing. She also sits on The Sea Rangers Council of Management helping to run the Association.

Having grown up in the crew as young girl, Jenny has volunteered all her adult life to SRS Barnehurst. She passes on her vast knowledge and experience to the girls. Jenny loves to Sail, being an honourary member at Fishers Green Sailing Club and if not on water is out Geocaching with her dog.
